Submissions

The Common Table Review publishes thoughtful, honest creative work that reflects the dignity, complexity, and resilience of human experience. We welcome both established and first-time writers and artists.

What We Publish

We currently consider:

  • Poetry

  • Fiction

  • Creative nonfiction and memoir

  • Personal essays

  • Visual art

  • Photography

Writers may submit up to five poems or one prose piece at a time. Artists may submit up to ten images.

What We’re Looking For

We are interested in work that is honest, carefully made, and attentive to experiences that are often overlooked.

We have a particular interest in work shaped by recovery, incarceration, poverty, rural life, caregiving, grief, faith, resilience, and other experiences that reveal the complexity of ordinary human lives. Submissions do not have to address recovery directly.

Review Timeline

Submissions are accepted year-round and reviewed on a rolling basis.

We aim to respond within two weeks. Occasionally, a response may take longer if submission volume is unusually high.

Publication and Payment

Accepted work is currently published online through The Common Table Review. We hope to produce print editions in the future as funding allows.

We are not currently able to pay contributors. Securing funding for contributor payments is one of our goals as the publication grows.

Contributors retain copyright to their work. The Common Table Review requests first publication rights and permission to keep accepted work in our online archive.
